Oubas Knitwear is the brainchild of Kate Wilson. In the summer of 2010 Kate graduated in Fashion Knitwear from Winchester School of Art. Soon after graduating she interned and then worked for lifestyle brand TOAST, moving to South Wales. Gaining a wealth of experience whilst working on their knitwear and jersey ranges, in 2012 she made the decision to found Oubas Knitwear, which began in the market town of Ulverston just outside the Lake District National Park. Oubas Knitwear is now based within the Old Pantry at Halecat House, in Witherslack.
" The unusual name of 'Oubas' is derived from 'Oubas Hill', which is the area of Ulverston, Cumbria where Oubas Knitwear began. Since beginning, I've discovered through customers that this is akin to an Afrikaans word meaning Old Man, or wise Elder."
