Abigail North works from her studio in a granite barn on the edge of Dartmoor. Much of her work is inspired by her natural surroundings. Vessels made with mixed clays are evocative of the beautiful granite stone found on the moor, and her 'fern, range of bowls and vases is inspired by the abundance of native ferns and lichen. In contrast, a further collection is inspired by vintage fabrics, with hand painted banded decoration in a range of colour ways.
Abigail's work is mainly made on the wheel, the resulting vessels finely thrown but strong and durable. All work is hand decorated when leather hard and bisque fired when dry. Subsequently it is glazed with a transparent glaze and then fired again to high temperature.
